READ MY LIBRARY Entry 55: The King is Dead, Long Live the King!

Last month marked the 20th anniversary of comic book innovator Jack Kirby’s passing.  Coming a little late to celebrate, Max nonetheless takes a blog entry to remark on the importance of Jack Kirby on the medium and several ways to honor the “King” of comics, Jack Kirby today—or even discover his art for the first time!  And where else to start your own Kirby reading list but right here at Super-Fly?!? READ MY LIBRARY Entry 54: They call this Shazam thing a Curse – But it’s Awesome!

Wrapping up a previously-unfinished entry from last year, Max writes at length about his all-time favorite super hero, the original Captain Marvel, formerly of Fawcett Comics in the Golden Age now known as Shazam and a mainstay at DC Comics.  Max recounts his personal history with the hero and discusses Shazam’s DC New 52 debut, Shazam Vol. 1: The Curse of Shazam! and why it is must-buy reading.  Plus, a look at a website that every comics fan should know about! READ MY LIBRARY Entry 53: New Crusaders Rise of the Heroes and Crusaders Legacy – Some Mighty Reading!

The Mighty Crusaders are arguably the least commercially successful super heroes ever.  They are also probably some of Max’s favorites. Thanks to Archie Comics, there are New Crusaders in town appearing first in New Crusaders: Rise of the Heroes and then in New Crusaders: Legacy.  It’s a pretty mighty legacy to live up to, but these kids (and these two books) live up to their past mostly, but maybe not perfectly.  Believe me, in some cases that may be a good thing!  It’s a RMLB Double Header! READ MY LIBRARY Entry 52: A Saturday Afternoon with Deadshot

Max takes the afternoon off to read & write about one of DC Comics’ coolest minor villains, Deadshot of Suicide Squad and Secret Six fame, after spending some time with Deadshot’s very own trade paperback collection, Deadshot Beginnings. Continue reading

READ MY LIBRARY Entry 51: A Very Happy New Year of Comics!

BACK FOR THE NEW YEAR!  The Read My Library Blog returns from its hiatus but Max takes a break from the older entries to write a new one reflecting on writing the Read My Library project for a year (and publishing for about half a year).  Where do we go from here? Continue reading

READ MY LIBRARY ENTRY 47: Finally! The End of The Aquaman Archives Volume 1!

Believe it or not, the book that has kept Max weighed down for seemingly ages, The Aquaman Archives Vol. 1 gets its final stories examined, and where appropriate, mocked. But it’s not all silly this time as Ramona Fradon’s final work on Aquaman is on display in some visually exciting stories! Go on and see it through with Super-Fly’s seasick sidekick! Continue reading

READ MY LIBRARY ENTRY 46: The New Toys Commeth!

Max continues to drag his feet with take a break from The Aquaman Archives Volume 1 (and let’s face it, do you really want non-stop Aquaman coverage?) to document geek out about some recent action figure acquisitions that have helped round out the Library of late. Join him on his merry path to toy madness, won’t we? Continue reading

After being absent for a few weeks, the Read My Library blog returns in full force as Max continues to work his way through The Aquaman Archives Vol. 1.  Aquaman swims around the world in 80 hours, deals with an upstart “Aqua Queen,” gets accused of being an “Aqua Thief” and more!  Plus, an important announcement about the Read My Library Blog! Continue reading

READ MY LIBRARY ENTRY 43: Aqualad Joins the Fun!

Continued from the last two entries where Max took a long car trip and read a lot of the Aquaman Archives Vol. 1, Max gets to the very first stories featuring everyone’s least favorite sidekick: Aqualad!  See how different Aqualad was in his first appearances compared to more recent adventures & learn about other Aquaman Silver Age yarns in this entry!
