Big doings this week as Stephen King continues his domination of the comic world as he launches his first all-new, original comic series AMERICAN VAMPIRE, an epic spanning centuries and putting a new spin on Vampire legend. You can check out the trailer for American Vampire below. Now that we’re past the the halfway mark for SIEGE, it’s time for the Avengers show up! The new Black Mask is revealed in BATMAN, it’s the final issue of the motion comic sensation SPIDER-WOMAN, the Black Panther and his allies continue to take back Wakanda in DOOMWAR and Zenescope puts their dark and sassy twist on the Peter Pan legend in NEVERLAND. Plus plenty of Doctor Who comics as well as a Sonic Screwdriver Flashlight (does not actually screw things in) and a sizable re-up of Marvel posters for those of you tired of staring at the same blank walls.
Spring is in the air, ready to rear it’s head. It’s time to think about getting out there and doing some yardwork. Clearing brush, chopping down trees, working with your hands. You know who else liked chopping things? Our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. Not just trees mind you, but bloodsucking vampires. Get the full story in the novel, ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE SLAYER. Also shipping this week is the JUSTICE LEAGUE RISE AND FALL SPECIAL, where we see the aftermath of the events of Cry For Justice, and some pre-math of Blackest Night and the new direction for the League and Green Arrow. Brainiac returns to menace New Krypton in SUPERMAN: THE LAST STAND OF NEW KRYPTON, you can catch up on one of the sleeper hits of the Marvel Universe with the VENGEANCE OF MOON KNIGHT and you can see Peter Parker get fired for the umpteenth time in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.
Now that Winter is officially behind us (shut up, it is), what better time to preview one of this summers hottest movies? This week we’ve got not one, not two, but THREE waves of Iron Man 2 toys. PLUS, what will be the fun toy of the season, Iron Man Mr. Potato Head, TONY STARCH. The Big Bad of BUFFY SEASON 8 is finally (*ahem*) revealed. Jeph Loeb and Frank Cho launch NEW ULTIMATES, Marvel throws the fairer sex into the mix with GIRL COMICS, Kevin Smith follows his new directorial outing (COP OUT is good, you should see it) with a new, “we promise it’s not late” comic series GREEN HORNET. Stray Bullet’s David Lapham returns to the violently surreal in SPARTA USA and DC returns to 40s pulp comics in FIRST WAVE, featuring the Spirit, Doc Savage and Batman coexisting in a shared universe.
Finally, a new comic day post where I don’t have to talk about the weather. Oh wait…dammit, I just did. Anyway, I will take this opportunity to remind folks about our DANCE PARTY & BREAKDANCE CONTEST this Saturday at 8pm. It will be a great time, and it looks like the weather will be most cooperating, so we won’t have to deal with dangerous roads. I know we like to keep the breaking on the cardboard, not on the asphalt.
Anyway, here’s this week’s stuff. BLACKEST NIGHT clocks in on schedule (yes, that was a planned skip month), while FLASH: REBIRTH (yes, that Flash Rebirth) limps along the finish line, three months late and a week after the Blackest Night miniseries that takes place *after* it wraps. If you read BN: Flash already, now’s your chance to find out how all those people got to where they were in that. It’s like Memento, right? Our copies of Ben Templesmith’s new book CHOKER finally show up, as do the second prints of one of my favorite books of the year thus far STUMPTOWN. There’s a bevy of SIEGE tie-ins, as well as the collection of Jonathan Hickman’s first arc on FANTASTIC FOUR. This has been amazing and should be owned by everyone with eyes.
